About Composite Resin Fillings
Cavities, one of the most common dental problems, develop when bacteria that live within the plaque on your teeth produce an acid that dissolves tooth enamel. In the past, cavities (tooth decay) were filled with amalgam material, which is a mixture of silver, mercury, and other metals. We now know that these fillings do not bond as well with the teeth and the mercury can be dangerous to your general health. At Trusted Dental Care in Wylie, TX, general dentist Dr. Fesaha Gebrehiwot uses tooth-colored fillings made from composite resin to fill cavities and restore teeth. Dr. G. can also remove old metal amalgams and place composite fillings for a more reliable and better-looking alternative for your smile.

"Trusted Dental was recommended to me by my dental insurance. When I went in it was extremely clean, everyone was wearing masks, they were so happy, even celebrating someone’s birthday with balloons and happy birthday banners were hung around the office. Trusted Dental is also eco friendly providing dry erase paperwork to fill out in order to reduce the use of paper. The wait was maybe 1-2min after I was done filling everything out. Everyone was so gentle that I felt extremely comfortable and safe. They talked me through what they were going to use on me and made sure I was okay throughout the entire process. I was able to watch Netflix while I waited for the images and X-rays to be uploaded. They use top of the line equipment which made the entire process of getting my teeth cleaned not nearly as painful as it has been in the past. Highly recommend this office! I’ll be having all of my family go here from now on. Thank you Trusted Dental for an amazing experience! Update: I can’t thank the staff enough for such an amazing experience every time I come here and everyone is so happy. You can tell when the employees are taken care of you will be too. I just went in for my routine cleaning, had to wait maybe 1 minute and was called back. The cleaning wasn’t painful at all and she kept checking to make sure I was okay. I had my makeup done and she was careful not to spray water everywhere which I greatly appreciate. I look forward going here because I know it’s a clean, happy, stress free experience."- A.J. / Google / Sep 22, 2022

"The service starts in the reception area. I was greeted with a smile and was provided very attentive care during check-in. Excellent customer service! The office is very modern-yet comfortable. During my treatment, after neglecting my dental health for years, Dr. G and the team provided me with a thorough check-up and have helped me to get my dental health back on track. The team uses state of the art technology that provides a comprehensive view of your dental health. As new residents to Wylie, my husband and I have found our dentist. Update! 9/2022 Recently, I completed teeth straightening and I have to say… I’m smiling a lot bigger these days! Consistent services and excellent dental care. I love that they know who I am when I walk in even when new employees are up front. That’s a nice bonus."- R.W. / Google / Sep 22, 2022
Are You a Candidate?
In addition to repairing decayed teeth, composite resin is a versatile material that may be used to treat other concerns, including chips or wear on the enamel caused by teeth grinding (bruxism). Since the material is shaded to match your natural teeth, tooth-colored fillings may be placed on the front and back teeth for a seamless appearance. Composite fillings are long-lasting, durable, and safe for patients of all ages. If you have metal fillings, talk to Dr. G. about getting them removed and replaced with composite resin.
Your Composite Filling Visit
Getting a tooth-colored filling at Trusted Dental Care is usually a simple procedure. The area surrounding the cavity will be numbed with a local anesthetic to help you feel more comfortable. If visiting the dentist makes you feel nervous or anxious, talk with our team about nitrous oxide sedation to help you relax. As soon as your mouth is prepared, the affected enamel can be cleared away using a special tool that Dr. G. will select based on where the cavity is located in the tooth and the level of decay. After the enamel is removed and the tooth is disinfected, the cavity will be filled with the composite material and hardened with a curing light. Dr. G. will polish the filling material so it feels comfortable and blends evenly your natural tooth structure.
Caring for Your Filling
You should be able to return to your day once your filling is complete, but you might notice some sensitivity to hot and cold temperatures for several days. Over-the-counter pain medicine can be taken to address any discomfort. Since it can be difficult to ensure a comfortable bite while you are numb, please contact our office if the filling seems uneven or high in the days following your visit. Your new filling can be cared for just like your natural teeth, through a regular home care routine with daily flossing and brushing. When you return for your dental cleaning and checkup visits, Dr. G. will check your composite filling to ensure it is still serving your oral health in the best possible way.
Composite resin fillings are a common treatment for dental cavities that are typically covered in part by insurance. A team member will talk to your dental insurance company to understand your exact coverage and will let you know of any estimated out-of-pocket expenses. At Trusted Dental Care, we want your family to enjoy healthy, beautiful smiles, regardless of whether you carry insurance. We are pleased to accept a variety of flexible payment options, including special financing plans, to make your care convenient and affordable.
Treating tooth decay in the early stage can help you avoid greater treatment needs in the future. At Trusted Dental Care in Wylie, TX, Dr. G. uses his talents and skill to restore damaged teeth with natural-looking composite resin fillings.
