What Are Dental Implants?
Has tooth loss made you feel less than confident about your smile? At Trusted Dental Care, we understand that missing even one tooth can be devastating and are pleased to offer dental implants, which is the highest level of care in tooth replacement today. Dental implants are biocompatible metal posts surgically positioned in your jawbone to replace the natural tooth root. The post(s) can then be utilized to a single crown, bridge, or hybrid denture for a natural-looking tooth replacement that can be treated like your real teeth. Dental implants offer a wide range of benefits, from increased biting stability to the preservation of jawbone health. For a long-lasting solution to any number of missing teeth, general dentist Dr. Fesaha Gebrehiwot is pleased to perform the entire implant procedure (from surgery to restoration) within the comfort of our Wylie, TX dental office, saving you from traveling among offices to receive your care. He proudly uses the highest quality materials and technologies, including Straumann, Nobel Biocare®, and Zimmer Biomet implants, to bring health and function back to the smiles of our patients. If tooth loss or uncomfortable tooth replacements have you searching for a stable, lifelike solution, we welcome you to visit Dr. G. and learn about your dental implant options.
Dental Implants Reviews
Ideal Implant Candidates
Implant dentistry can replace one, multiple, or a whole arch of missing teeth with an implant-retained crown, implant bridge, or hybrid implant denture. You may be a good candidate for dental implants if you currently are dissatisfied with your current tooth replacement or if you have an unsalvageable tooth that needs to be extracted and replaced. Dental implants, like natural teeth, rely on adequate bone levels in the jaw and healthy gum tissues for support. During your consultation, Dr. G. will evaluate the health of your jawbone and gums to determine if you are a good candidate for implant dentistry. In some cases, a bone graft may need to be performed first to provide a solid foundation for your tooth replacement. Dental implants may not be appropriate if you use tobacco products, have certain medical conditions, or are pregnant.
What To Expect
Before the dental implant is placed, you may need to have teeth extracted or your jawbone prepared with a bone grafting procedure. When your mouth is ready for dental implant surgery, Dr. G. will thoroughly numb the gums, bone, and nerves in the area to ensure your comfort. Nitrous oxide sedation may also be provided to help you feel even more relaxed. An incision will be made your gums so the post can be placed securely within your jawbone. The incision in the gums will be sutured closed with some of the dental implant visible above the gums. This process will be repeated if multiple posts are required. As the implant integrates into the gums and jawbone over the next several months, a temporary restoration may be placed over the implants. Once Dr. G. decides your dental implant is healed solidly into your jaw and gums, your permanent custom implant-retained restoration (crown, bridge, or denture) will be crafted, attached firmly to the implant(s), and adjusted for a natural fit.
After Your Implant Procedure
Following the surgical placement of your implant, there may be some temporary inflammation or tenderness in your mouth, which can generally be relieved with pain medication and cold compresses. Dr. G. will talk to you about what to expect as you heal and what should be reported to our office. After your dental implants are healed and your customized restoration has been connected, it is important to maintain a good home oral care routine that includes daily brushing and flossing. Dental implants can be cared for just like your real teeth and can last a very long time with proper care. When you visit Trusted Dental Care for your routine dental cleanings and checkups, our team will use special instruments to clean your implants and monitor their health.
Insurance Coverage
In some cases, dental insurance may cover a portion of the dental implant procedure. A member of our team will review your plan and assist you in maximizing your dental benefits. Trusted Dental Care wants every patient to achieve the healthy smile they deserve and is pleased to accept a number of flexible payment options, including no-or-low cost financing plans, for any uncovered portion of treatment.
